She was running near the beach.
The morning was humid and quickly becoming warmer as the sun began to rise over the horizon, but she pushed against the heat. Her muscles were tired and she wasn't feeling the workout, but the importance of her results kept her moving.
"Just one more quarter mile," she told herself, "I'll take the short route today if I can just push that much further..."
Reaching her goal mark she stumbled into a panting walk, willing herself not to lay on the ground and stop all together. As her pulse lowered she gazed out at the water. No one was out yet this morning. She knew that within a few hours the sand would be crowded with families of small children and mothers enjoying a reprieve from the summer heat... but for now the water was still and the air somewhat quiet.
In the distance she could hear the faint buzz of the highway, and above her birds were greeting one another in flight and song...
Alright, she thought, time to cool my feet.

Leaving the dirt clad path of near the trees she walked toward the water. Stripping her t-shirt she felt the breeze graze across her bare stomach. She stripped off her shoes and strolled into the water. It was an amazing chill against the heat of her body and the heat of the sun.
"I have GOT to make more time to come to the beach," she sighed. Smiling, eyes closed, as she enjoyed the sensation of her feet in the water.
* * * * *
It was a week before she found the time to visit the beach again.
Work had been exceptionally crazy, as well as her family demands, and as she set out on her morning run she was happy to discover that the humidity was not as heavy as the week prior. She was also glowing from her recent 'step' on the scale (down a whole 10 pounds!) and she found that her step was light and energetic as she carried herself along.
Coming along the path where she could hear the water lap against the sand, she smiled.
After I do my FULL run this morning, she laughed to herself, I am gonna take a well deserved DIP in that chilly water!
Full of new-found inspiration, she finished her jog in record time and walked joyfully back to the beach. Slipping off her shoes she strolled along the water's edge, teasing her toes, until she came to the larger boulders at the end of the Public Area. Checking to see that she was alone, she slipped off her workout gear, folded her items neatly and tucked them next to the rock. Glancing about once again, she quickly tip-toed into the water until she could sit on the sand with the water lapping about her collarbone.
She sighed with glee at the refreshing feel of the cool water against her body, and grinned like a small child over her adventurous decision to skinny-dip. She watched the warm pinkish sunlight become a bright beam of white gold as rose into full-sunrise, and taking a deep sigh she tucked her hands under her bottom. Lifting her body out in front of her, she laid her head back into the water and let her body float up to the surface of the water.

Spreading her arms out to the side, she closed her eyes and enjoyed her float. Then, resigned to the fact that the beach would not remain hers forever, she flipped over and began crawling in on her hands, body trailing behind her in a buoyant float.
She had drifted out a bit, though not very far, and she could feel the water grow ever so slightly warmer as she reached the shallow slope of the beach. Focusing out at the beach, she prepared to hop to her knees and sprint for her clothes when she spotted him.
Only yards away, a man was laying on the beach. He wasn't facing her, in fact he was on his back, eyes closed. But it wouldn't take much for him to open his eyes and see her as she attempted to emerge from the water.
Who goes to the beach at 7am? She thought.
All she could tell from her distance was that he was wearing blue jeans, no shoes, and no sunglasses. He had brought a beach towel that he was now resting on, and his hair was some shade of light brown.
Watching him, her initial fear of having been discovered was slowly replaced by the stupidity she felt for sitting in the water while he clearly wasn't paying any attention to her. He's probably asleep, she thought to herself, its been like 10 minutes and he hasn't so much as shifted.
Bracing herself, she made the decision to stand up, cover her bits, and exit the water as quickly as possible without running and splashing about. Taking a breath she stood up and blocked herself...
